DESCRIPTIONS:

  • Conversational Spanish: This Spanish enrichment class will meet seven times (not on Friday, July 15 or Monday, July 18) and will engage students by teaching basic Spanish words and essential expressions through vocabulary builders. We will practice pronunciation, as well as translate and combine each lesson with pictures and music. Each student will be challenged to show their learned skills with games in a fun and supportive environment. Instructor: Anna Colilles.
    • About Anna: Anna is a fully credentialed teacher with an MA in Education. She is an energetic and organized Spanish native instructor, born in Barcelona, and an expert at engaging students to learn a language through a structured, fun, creative and flexible curriculum. With a lifelong passion for teaching and individualizing lessons at each student’s level, Anna promotes communication skills.
  • Ukulele Jam: Ukuleles are tiny but mighty! The Ukulele’s 4 strings are softer than the strings of a guitar, making it a friendly, less intimidating instrument to start with. In this beginner’s class, (or advanced, if you’re patient) we will learn what we need to get started: parts of the instrument, how to hold your Uke, tuning, basic chords, strumming patterns & techniques, and of course—SONGS! Learn for simple social singalongs, to play in your rock band, or as part of a classical ensemble. No matter what, you’ll be having fun! Instructor: Jenni Buchanan.
  • NASCAR Science: NASCAR race cars can reach speeds of more than 200 miles per hour. How do they do it? The NASCAR Acceleration Nation program brings STEAM alive in the classroom with fun, hands-on experiments that teach about aerodynamics. Students will build and decorate their own car (right) and use it for experiments to explain the following concepts in aerodynamics, the 3D’s of speed: drag, downforce, airflow, drafting. Instructor: Laura Erlig. Max: 8.
  • Story Club: What better way to spend time this summer than by reading, writing, and listening to stories! In this class we’ll read some awesome short stories by wide-ranging authors and learn to become better storytellers ourselves by first emulating, and then developing our own creative writing styles. Come ready to read, write, play with prompts, listen, and share your own creative genius! Instructor: Jenni Buchanan.
