Thank you to everyone who participated in our campaign!

Our 2021-2022 Annual Giving Campaign ran for 8 weeks, from November 15 until January 10. Our donors’ tax-deductible contributions helped us more than ever!

Our financial needs are ongoing. To continue supporting One Spark Academy, consider becoming a “Friend of One Spark” with a monthly donation of any amount. Visit our donation page for more information. One Spark Academy exists because of the support of supporters like you.

Campaign details:

One Spark Academy has been a lifeline to many families whose children need a small, flexible, and nurturing place to learn. But, we continue to need YOUR support to provide the learning experiences our students need. Our journey through a pandemic continues to challenge us, as we pivot in remarkable ways to ensure our students can learn and thrive. Last year, that pivot included learning in a variety of locations: online, on the trails, at the park, in-person at Art Trek, and at our beautiful garden classroom (built in June, 2020). We moved back to the Teen Center in August 2021, but pivoted once again as the Teen Center  undergoes a series of delayed renovation and construction projects. Now we are settled at the Conejo Valley YMCA! Your support helped ensure our new location was ready for learning, so our students can continue getting the exceptional education that One Spark provides.

Whether by way of a small or large tax-deductible gift, every single donor helps us by giving what they can. If you donated last year, we hope you consider your investment as money well spent, and that you might consider donating again this year.

Our goal for this year’s giving campaign was $25,000 raised between November 15 and January 10. Scroll down to see how will use those funds.

All donors will be listed at the bottom of this page (unless they request to remain anonymous). Listed donors will include our Friends of One Spark who contribute monthly. No contribution amounts will be listed.

*The total amount on the gauge shown may not include matching or offline donations. The final total (to include matching donations) will be updated at the end of the campaign.

About Us, and Why We Fundraise

If you’re here, then you already know the value of One Spark Academy, or you know someone who does. But to give you some background, One Spark Academy was founded in 2011 with one mission in mind: to give kids who need something different a path to a great education. We’re a small learning center for middle-school students (and older) who, for a variety of reasons, benefit from a non-traditional setting. We receive no state funding. We rely on registration fees and donations to do what we love to do: teach kids well!

We have never charged families what it actually costs to run OSA. That is why we became a 501(c)(3) non-profit, and that is why we are asking for YOUR help. Consider your tax-deductible donation an investment in the future of our community.  You never know who will need us– your child, a neighbor’s, a friend’s, a co-worker’s. Many companies also match your donation to a non-profit.

Make it monthly! You can become a “Friend of One Spark” with a monthly contribution of any amount.

How Your Donations Will Support Us in 2021-2022
  • Support the funds needed to relocate. Our relocation to the Conejo YMCA was budgeted to cost about $15,000. However, when all is counted, we will have spent about $25,000 on the move, including:
    • An industrial-grade handrail for the wooden staircase leading to the activity room;
    • Upgrades to the existing YMCA kitchen;
    • Upgrades to three other buildings, including new carpeting, lighting, screens, and paint;
    • Classroom furniture and technology needs;
    • Various other needs, from backpack racks to cleaning supplies;
    • Extra hours for moving and set up, including truck rental fees.
  • Provide scholarships for students-in-need to take additional classes they couldn’t afford otherwise. That need continues to be great for several families.
    • We aim to provide at least 5 current students with scholarships ranging from $200 per session (single class) to $400 per session (two classes).
  • Support the added expenditures (such as chaperones) of our 2022 Yosemite Adventure. This trip was cancelled in 2020 and 2021. We can’t wait to take our students in 2022!
  • Supplement the expenditures for our unique courses and our unique pivot.
    • Educational materials cost us, on average, $120 per month in a normal year. A relocation, however temporary, will require necessary equipment and new materials. We expect to spend at least $5000 on materials/equipment in the coming months.
  • Help us continue to grow while remaining accessible. Our Flex Plan (full-time) rate is discounted an average of $400 per month, per full-time student, from what our operational costs should require.
