Dear Families,

Planning how to reopen schools during a global pandemic is giving everyone whiplash. If you have students in the local public schools, the disappointment about starting the year with remote learning is no doubt a grand disappointment for everyone, even if this move was deemed necessary.

With all local schools moving online, our job is definitely made more challenging for a variety of reasons: community support (why are OSA kids together and we can’t be?), more strict safety compliance, and more challenges with flexibility if siblings are home. However, OSA is nimble and can flex much more easily than most programs. At this time, our schedule still has a mix of onsite, outdoors, and offsite courses. You will be emailed a copy of the Session 1 Schedule and Session 1 Course Descriptions on July 27. That week, after perusing the schedule, you will also be emailed a proposed schedule for your student, which will be tweaked as much as possible with your input.

What happens over the next four weeks is anyone’s guess, but here are some options we have:

  1. Start with all onsite courses as planned if we are able, but with as many as classes as possible outdoors.
    1. OSA lunchtime may start the first week, or be added in gradually as we get our groove down.
  2. Start with some onsite courses as planned if we are able, but with as many classes as possible outdoors, and gradually add in more days.
  3. Start all courses online, except Seeds & Sprouts, Fitness Club, and Hiking Club, then gradually move onsite as soon as we can safely do so.
    1. Perhaps we will addd in more offsite safe gatherings, such as another Hiking group.
  4. Start all courses online in the event that the County says we have to, or puts limits again on any form of gathering, and then gradually move onsite as soon as we can safely do so.
  5. Something else that we haven’t considered.

Please complete the following form to help us plan. All input will be taken into consideration and we will do the BEST thing we know how to do, and can safely do!

Session 1 Reopening Survey

Hi Parents! Please take the time to fill out this survey. It will help our team in planning for the safe reopening of OSA, and enable us to find the best schedules (possible) for our students. We all recognize that planning during a pandemic is not easy and the situation is changing by the week. Thanks in advance for your help!
  • This information may have changed since you filled out your pre-registration commitment form.
Our schedule is currently being planned as a hybrid: onsite, online, and offsite. Please note that our scheduled onsite courses are organized in a way that they can move online should we not be able to open onsite, then back onsite when safe.
Family situations and work obligations have changed for some. OSA will also need to be flexible in its reopening. That may include starting only on some days and then gradually adding more days, having classes entirely outdoors, or a mix of indoors and outdoors at the Teen Center.
Students and staff will be required to wear masks and maintain social distance while indoors and outdoors. There will be some flexibility outdoors, and of course during lunch. But there will be strict safety protocols in place to ensure the safety of everyone, and the operational ability of OSA. (This section will help us gauge the compliance ability of our student body. Please be honest.)
The courses listed will be offered on our schedule at various times. Any of these courses can move online if needed. To help us try to accommodate the most interests, please check all courses that your child is most interested in.

These courses will be at various times in the afternoons, to provide a longer break in daily schedules or allow for more students to participate in OSA.
These courses are offered before 3:00 PM
Check all days that your child CAN attend classes at OSA, either online, onsite, or offsite
We might be able to more easily hold courses onsite if we set up outdoors.
We might be able to more easily hold courses onsite if we set up outdoors. However, we cannot leave easy ups and tables outdoors at the Teen Center, so set up would be daily. We need help.
At any time, our onsite courses are scheduled in a way they can move online. Students need to prepare work stations that will enable them to learn. Please check off the items you have in place.
  • Is there anything else we should know? Your level of concern? A family situation that might impact our planning with you? General thoughts? Most important thing for your child right now?
