This year, we implemented a policy whereby students were asked to be “phone-free” from their arrival at OSA until their departure, with limited exceptions. We asked students to leave phones at home (if they have them) or “off” in their backpacks, not in their hands or pockets. We encouraged families to be part of our collective agreement, so that students would feel comfortable putting down tech and building up real-life connections. Our full policy is here.

We would appreciate your input on OSA’s Tech Policy. Thank you in advance!

This 2024 book was a recommended read for OSA families. Its data regarding the negative impact of tech on children was groundbreaking and has led districts, states, and even countries to implement stricter tech policies and social media age limits.
  • The OSA Tech Policy aimed to not only limit student distractions and increase student learning but also provide long blocks of time where students could build in-person connections, be active, and be away from screens. Hold to click/shade all that apply.
